Cancer Centre Wellbeing Volunteer

Volunteers are a really important part of the team at MKUH, supporting patients and staff across the hospital, helping us do more.

At MKUH, giving your time helps make a big difference to our patients’ lives. Having volunteers enables us to do more, whether that is time to spend with patients, or helping give our teams extra capacity. Volunteers are vital in helping the Trust deliver the highest quality healthcare possible to our many patients.

Volunteering is also an excellent opportunity for people to give back to their local hospital and to help make a real difference.

The Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre (MISC) has been developed as a joint venture between Macmillan Cancer Support and Milton Keynes University Hospital Foundation NHS Trust. We offer people affected by Cancer access to good quality, comprehensive and appropriate information and support. The MISC is based in the Cancer Centre, which provides Day Case Chemotherapy and Out Patient Monitoring and Treatment for Cancer Patients affected by cancer and blood disorders. Patients are sometimes here to receive supportive therapy like blood transfusions. These appointments can often take up a whole day.

We look for you to be able to commit to a minimum of 3 hours a week for 6 months. If you have any experience or particular interest tell us, it may come in useful. It’s really easy to get your volunteering started. If you're over 18 years old, just click on ‘Apply’ and get filling in your details! Please note that if you have personal experience of having cancer, you will need to have finished your treatment at least 12 months ago before you can volunteer.
